  • It is often easier to work out what the problem is first and then let us help you decide how best to treat it. Read on or book a consultation to discuss your issue with Dr Kyra.

  • We all age…it is inevitable.

    1. First there is prevention - good skincare is paramount, and this should include a daily sunscreen. Even in winter.

    2. Then - fabulous skincare. Dr Kyra is proud to partner with pHformula and offers skin consultations and bespoke, tailored medical grade treatment packages for home use.

    3. Then - clinic treatments, including:

  • Bespoke skin resurfacing treatments (skin peels) using the pHformula range of products can be used to target acne, rosacea and/or scarring.

Microneedling using our SkinPen will help improve any scarring which has formed from previous acne; all our Microneedling packages include bespoke skin resurfacing treatments which will help with this further.

Our home skincare packages are available to complement the clinic treatments.

  • Sweating is a normal process which allows us to maintain our body temperature constant. Some people find that they sweat when they do not need to be kept cool, or they sweat excessive amounts (hyperhidrosis). This may be because the nerves which trigger the sweat to be released are overactive.

Injections of Botulinum Toxin (Botox) just under the skin will inhibit the sweat glands and stop them producing sweat.

  • Usually, bone, fat and muscles create a scaffold effect for skin to sit on. With time, all these three tissues regress and become smaller - so there is loss of volume beneath the skin’s surface. This is particularly obvious on the face, which can appear hollow, especially around the eyes, the cheeks and the temples. Not only can the face appear hollow, but because the skin sits on this scaffold, which is regressing, the skin has less support and appears more wrinkled.

Dermal fillers can be used to replace lost tissue in the face, thereby restoring any hollows and giving the appearance of a more youthful face. Fillers can be placed in cheeks, temples, jawline, under the eyes or around the mouth.

  • With time, our lips become thinner. Lip fillers can plump and volumise the lips thus restoring them to their previous form. They can also be used in the fine lines around the mouth and to the border of the lips to add definition, and to the cupids bow. This will give the lips a fuller, more youthful appearance, whilst maintaining a natural look.

Younger people with thinner lips may prefer a slightly fuller lip to balance the proportions of the face better.

  • As if the more common symptoms of the menopause weren’t enough, it also results in changes to our skin and appearance due to a reduction in oestrogen levels.

Oestrogen depletion results in thinner skin, less elastic skin, dry skin, skin which is less firm, and it also has effects on the underlying structures of the face. Oestrogen has also been shown to increase collagen production, so as our skin produces less collagen it appears less ‘plump’ and more prone to wrinkling.

The top layer of skin, the epidermis, becomes much thinner, giving the skin a papery appearance, making it wrinkle easier and making it more prone to physical and sun damage.

With age, our bones reduce in density as we age, due to low oestrogen levels, and we lose muscle mass. These two factors have an effect on the underlying structure of our face, as the bones and muscles of the face change and can add to the appearance of looking gaunt, face sagging and of skin wrinkling, as it has less support.

    What can we do?

Boosting our skin's collagen production should be a main focus from our 30s onward: the more collagen we have before the menopause, the more we can get away with losing afterwards. Boosting collagen post-menopause will also have a beneficial effect on skin, adding plumpness, structure and reducing fine lines. We can do this with targeted skincare, both in clinic and at home, using active ingredients known to boost collagen, and also by using microneedling to stimulate our skin cells to produce collagen.

Dermal fillers can be used to replace lost tissue in the face, thereby restoring any hollows and giving the appearance of a more youthful face. Fillers can be placed in cheeks, temples, jawline, under the eyes or around the mouth.

Lip augmentation with fillers can also help as we often lose volume in the lips as we age. Wrinkling around the mouth (smokers' lines) can also become a problem and restoring the lips can help restore a more youthful appearance

Anti-wrinkle injections, known as Botox, can be used to prevent lines getting deeper and can help restore certain features: for example, it is not uncommon for the mouth to droop with age, and careful placement of Botox can help reverse this.

  • Stretch marks (striae) occur during rapid periods of growth, for example in puberty, pregnancy or weight gain. Sudden changes in the skin cause collagen and elastin fibres to rupture and as they reform and the skin heals they produce stretch marks. They tend to start off looking like purple lines on the skin and with time become silvery and less visible.

Microneedling can help restore the protein collagen by activating the cells which produce it, improving the appearance of stretch marks.

  • Signs of ageing around the neck, jaw and decolletage can often give the appearance of people being older than they actually are. The skin in this area is subject to the same changes with time as skin elsewhere, a reduction in strength and elasticity due to loss of collage and elastin. A typical ‘turkey neck’ appearance can result from a combination of these, along with loss of muscle and fat which, with gravity, pulls the skin downwards. The main neck muscle, the Platysma muscle, becomes more obvious, resulting in more visible ‘platysmal bands’: the bands that can be seen running vertically up the neck.

Good skincare to the neck and decolletage is paramount, as it is usually subject to the same external stressors as skin on the face e.g. UVA from the sun, so skincare regimes should include a daily sunscreen. Our fabulous skincare range, pHformula, has home skincare available to suit different skin types.

Anti-wrinkle injections (Botox) can be used in the platysmal bands to relax the platysma muscle, make the bands less obvious, and improve neck wrinkles. Injections elsewhere around the jaw can help lift the neck and jowls and give a more defined appearance

Signs of ageing can all be treated with microneedling and/or skin resurfacing treatments, and these are suitable for the neck area. They will also help with any scarring which may have occurred from acne affecting the neck or upper chest.
