Many clinics are popping up everywhere with everyone from doctors, nurses, dentists, beauticians and hairdressers to name just a few, battling for custom to inject Botox and dermal fillers. So how do you know who to trust? Should you try and bag a bargain? Or could that lead to disastrous consequences?

Here are my top 4 pieces of advice when choosing a cosmetic practitioner. (3 minute read)

1) Who is your injector?

I always get suspicious when I look at a cosmetic website and there is NOTHING about the injector’s background- their medical qualifications, their skill levels, when they joined the industry, the products they use. To me, that speaks volumes.

I have a practice based in Tarporley where I perform Botox and dermal fillers and on my website and social media I regularly post videos, have a bio up on my website about me and my experience and am always happy to ask questions about my background. You may, for example, want to know how they deal with an infection, or perhaps a rare but more serious allergic reaction?

It’s what I would want to know if I was going for a proceedure.

So feel free to ask questions and find out exactly….who is your injector?!

2) Results

Anyone can create a website and state they are an expert, or an “advanced aesthetics practitioner”. In fact, these words are over-used in our industry for sure. What is the evidence? Well, before and afters are a good start - and again, most good injectors will be proud of their work and will have these on show.

Posting stock images from the “Juvederm” website does not display skill or expert skills. And does this injector just do lip filler, or might they be able to holistically treat your face based on a thorough consultation and bespoke treatment plan?

3) Trust your instinct

Always have a consultation with your injector - and you should never feel pressured to go ahead with treatment. What is your gut telling you? Do you trust this person? Are they upselling you constantly? Are they listening to your concerns? Having Botox and dermal fillers can be scary for the first time. How well does this injector put you at ease?

Are they promising perfect result, or are they giving you a more realistic opinion of what you can expect?

All of these along with the manner and professionalism of your injector will hopefully tell your gut instinct whether this person is right for you as an individual.

4)Word of mouth

We’ve all got that friend who just always looks fresh and never seems to age. You’ve always wanted to ask them if they have treatments? Well take the plunge and ask them - they might be more excited to talk than you realise. (If they don’t have treatments it will be a compliment to them anyway!)

But getting a recommendation from a trusted friend who looks good, and natural, is a great place to start.

Explore why they like their injector - is it price related? Was it their experience? Or their reputation? Ultimately, talking to a friend about their experience will likely provide some much needed reassurance about the whole process of getting your first aesthetic treatment.

Final thought

Choosing an injector is a very personal thing. Everyone has their own priorities; for some it is cost, for other safety, for others experience, etc.

Other things you can check are reviews on sites such as Google and Facebook.
